Welcome to Bangor
This small village was very prosperous with three operating sawmills and could very well have gotten its name from the well-known American city in Maine because of their mutual involvement with forestry.
These sawmills depended on the Meteghan River to drive their logs down great distances. One of these mills, the Bangor Sawmill, fell into disrepair over the years and with the Bangor Development Commission and local support, it was recently rebuilt and opened to the public as a museum.
It is the only water-powered turbine lumber sawmill in North America and possibly the world.
