Welcome to Saulnierville
This village was settled in 1785 and among the first settlers of the region where this village is located, there were six families who bore the name Saulnier.

Therefore, it was natural for residents of others villages to speak of the City of Saulniers or Saulnier-ville.

Saulnierville is home to the oldest parish church in the Municipality of Clare, Sacred Heart Church, built in 1879 by local carpenters and tradesmen. This beautiful landmark with its magnificent stained glass windows and awe-inspiring gold accented altar is not to be missed.

Beside the church is École Jean Marie Gay School. This academy of learning was built upon request of Père Castonguay in 1949. The school continues to welcome Clare's new generations.

Change is inevitable, and nothing can demonstrate this fact better than the ever changing trends of shopping. Saulnierville was one of the first villages to have a department store.

The transition from the small general stores took place after WWII when people's needs had changed and stores that offered convenient one-stop-shopping were smarter enterprises for business owners.

Other department stores existed in Mavillette, Salmon River, Meteghan, Little Brook, and Concession but on a smaller scale.

Beside this shopping mart is a road that leads you to the busiest seafood processing company in Clare. Can you identify the freezing house, the ice tower, the main plant and the herring reduction plant? The wide variety of products produced by the plant are available worldwide.

While in this area of Saulnierville, check out Saulnierville Wharf which has an interesting story behind it. The wharf was constructed on shore in 50-foot concrete sections and floated into place. The wharf was designed with perforated sides to cushion storm waves, but the wharf proved inadequate.

You can see mother nature's raw power when you look at the rapidly eroding glacial deposits cliffs that can be seen from the wharf.
