Welcome to Saulnierville Station
This village is one of the many that grew around the train stations and has kept on growing and the track itself has been kept as a walking and atv trail though the train whistle is no longer heard in Clare.
As well, this spot was made famous by a song written by a Clare local and sung by a nationally known Acadian band. The song that put this village on the map goes “M’en allant par Saulnierville Station, en vieille station wagon, cent milles à l’heure pour sauter l’track.” Which translated loosely means… On my way to Saulnierville Station, in an old station wagon, at a hundred miles an hour to jump the track. While driving by where the track once crossed the road, a large sign can be seen depicting the band who sings the Saulnierville Station song in an old station wagon jumping the track. The sign also features the chorus of the popular song.
If you decide to venture in the direction of Saulnierville Station, please do not attempt to jump the track as it could be very hazardous to your health as the character in the song discovered when he tried to accomplish this feat while going in the wrong direction!
“Pour sauter l’track à Saulnierville Station en vieille station wagon, à cent milles à l’heure, il faut qu’on aille par la côte, poin par le bois, par la côte!” To jump the track in Saulnierville Station, in an old station wagon, at a hundred miles an hour, you have to go toward the shore, not toward the woods, toward the shore!
Drive safely and enjoy your trip through Clare music history!
Here’s an added bonus. If you drive through Saulnierville Station and keep straight, the road will lead directly to the village of Bangor where you can visit a 19th century water powered turbine sawmill that has been turned into a museum and provides sawing demonstrations every Wednesday from 3p.m. to 4p.m!
