The coastal community of Clare offers a wide variety of seafood. Among the more popular choices are scallops, lobster, clams, mussels, cod, and haddock. Rich chowders as well as other mouth-watering dishes like seafood platters or seafood fettuccini can be enjoyed in many of the local restaurants.

Softshell clams are wonderfully appetizing and when steamed and dipped in melted butter or vinegar, these small clams become great delicacies. Our scallops never cease to amaze visitors with their savory flavour and texture.

A visit to the Meteghan wharf can prove to be quite exciting as you can fish off the wharf yourself or watch local fishermen on their Cape Islanders unload their catches of the day.

The wharves in Saulnierville, Comeauville, and Cape Saint Mary are also public wharves open to all. Fresh seafood can usually be purchased at one of the many fish plants in the area or if you would rather get the shellfish yourself, consult the clamming page for clam digging procedures.

NOTE: before any clamming or fishing excursion, consult the local Department of Fisheries and Oceans in Meteghan for season and regulation information as fishing or clamming out of season could result in a fine and eating out of season shellfish could result in food poisoning.
