Likely named after Bangor, Maine, due to their mutual involvement with forestry, this small inland village once had three operating sawmills.
These sawmills depended on the Meteghan River to drive their logs at great distances.
During the 1980s, the Bangor Development Commission led a community effort to rebuild the Bangor Sawmill and operate it as a museum. It is one of the only remaining water-powered turbine lumber sawmills in North America.
